KKSC Wildcat Mountain State Park Labor Day Weekend Ride
Requirements: Trail pass, Annual WI State Park Sticker or Day Pass
Rating: Moderate to Advanced
One of the
best kept secrets in the equestrian world is Wildcat Mountain in the beautiful
Kickapoo Valley of Wisconsin. The park is nestled in the hills a mile east of
Ontario, Wisconsin and has 24 camp sites with a hand pump, clean vault toilets,
posts for picket lines, hitching rails, and safe outside stalls. There is a
modern bathroom with clean showers at the non-horse campground, and equestrians
are welcome to use it. There are 15 miles of marked trails with some additional
unmarked trails. They are hilly with a dense canopy of leaves overhead. You will
find some overlooks and cross Billings Creek several times. There is a good
trail map at the bulletin board. Pick one up and have no fear of getting lost.
The small town of Ontario, Wisconsin is the canoe capital of the world. They
have six canoe rental places, so you might like to take a few hours to enjoy the
river. There is a large Amish community, and you will find hitching rails in
town. It is about a mile from the horsemen's campground to the downtown area and
would be any easy ride for supplies.
State Park sticker and trail passes are required. Reservations are recommended. For reservations, call
1-888-947-2757 or make them
online.
